Hi, friends! Here are a few ways you can show your support for the Black Lives Matter movement and better highlight the black voices around you:
1. Justice for Big Floyd - www.justiceforbigfloyd.com
Sign the petition. An email is sent on your behalf to direct players in this case. It takes 30 seconds, and it makes your voice heard.
Call the number. The number on the website is a Minneapolis number. You will hear the voice of Shaun King who will guide you through how to request accountability for Floyd's murder. They will dial the numbers, you only have to speak. As an fyi, you will be charged for long distance calling.
2. The George Floyd Memorial Fund - https://ca.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd
This fund was started by Floyd's brother to support the family through funeral costs, legal expenses, and mental health and grief assistance.
3. The Minnesota Freedom Fund - https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/donate
This organization works to fund criminal bail and immigration bond for those people who have been wrongly and oppressively jailed but cannot afford bail.
UPDATE: They’re taking some time to reallocate their funds and are not accepting donations for now. However, they have listed organizations you can donate to on this page.
4. The Black Lives Matter Solidarity Fund NS - https://gf.me/u/x3vnqv
This is an emergency fund for the black community living throughout Nova Scotia, and funds will be given out to members based on an application process. This DIRECTLY impacts our province.
5. Zoe Amira’s Stream to Donate - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCgLa25fDHM
All ad revenue from this video will be donated to important blm resources. Mute it while it's playing in the background if need be. If this is to be engaged in, deactivate your ad blocker and do not skip the ads. To rewatch and continue generating ad revenue, go back and click on the video again. Do not refresh the page.
6. Supporting your local black community
Donate to local organizations that support the black community (Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute, Black Educators Association, Association of Black Social Workers, Nova Scotia Brotherhood)
Buy from a local black-owned businesses and restaurants.
Shout out your black friends, content creators, activists, etc. in your posts on social media.
If you are posting a black square on social media today, please DO NOT use # blacklivesmatter because it blocks up the hashtag and draws attention away from important blm resources. If you already have, please delete your post and repost it without the hashtag!
This is by no means an exhaustive list. The internet is a magical place. Please use it to educate yourself on the history of the black community!
